Support for Health Disparities Research San Francisco State University has received a five-year award from the National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities to support the development of infrastructure for research on health disparities. This award is part of the National Center's Research Infrastructure for Minority Institutions (RIMI) program and its goal is to encourage and support SF State faculty who are a) doing or planning to do research on the root causes of inequities in health and access to health care and/or b) studying ways to design and test interventions that aim to eliminate these inequities. As implemented on the SF State campus, this program has two principal components: * Research and grant-writing support resources available to all faculty * Special competitive awards to support the production of research grant proposals Support for all SF State faculty doing research on health disparities: * A special series of lectures on health disparities featuring speakers prominent in the field of health disparities research. * Access to the new RIMI2 grant-writing facility located at the Pacific Plaza, Suite 750, 2001 Junipero Serra Blvd. near the Daly City Bart Station. This facility will provide limited shared workspace, access to library facilities, and meeting rooms. * Faculty grant- and paper-writing seminars and workshops held on campus and at Pacific Plaza. * Grant-writing consultation with RIMI2 technical support staff [ongoing, for literature reviews, design of qualitative and quantitative studies, sampling, statistical and GIS consulting, telephone and field studies design, focus groups, and editorial assistance as the budget permits]. Competitive awards Faculty can also apply for special competitive awards that will be evaluated by a panel of senior faculty with research grant experience. Applications for this year is closed. The fellowships feature combinations of the following elements: * One semester [usually the Spring] of half-time reimbursed release from teaching and limited summer salary support. * Private offices with phones and computing equipment at the RIMI2 grant-writing facility at Pacific Plaza from January to December. * Opportunities for participation in UCSF and UCB post-doctoral training seminars [by special arrangement]. * Consultation with RIMI2 technical support staff on grant proposal development. * Support for a research mentor [$10,000 stipend per year], normally a senior faculty member at a Research I institution, who has grant and grant-reviewing experience.
